Came for the courses. Stayed for the community.
Even great online learning can become stale. Community keeps creating reasons to come back.

MasterTheHandpan already gave 40,000+ students access to world-class on-demand courses. But there was a gap between:
an ever-growing content library, and
the reality that most students, learning alone, weren’t even finishing their first course.
Community could bridge that gap—and create value that content alone could not.
I helped turn community into a product, designing everything from onboarding, navigation, and gamification to recurring events, monthly challenges, workshops, and student gatherings. The first challenge was adoption; from there, each layer gave members another reason to participate, connect, belong, and ultimately stay.
On-demand content might be evergreen, but conversations, shared experiences, and relationships keep creating something new. People might come for the courses, but they stay for the community.
Gamification surfaced highly engaged members who became moderators and guest facilitators. Eventually, members formed friendships, exchanged knowledge, supported one another, and created value themselves—turning an online course platform into a community people could feel part of.
